Why do we make a specific DISA product using the Rein brand of BMW DISA valve?

Of the aftermarket DISA valves on the market, the only aftermarket brand that met our upgrade criteria, was the Rein product. Rein is a quality OEM automotive supplier and their DISA valve uses decent quality PTFE lined bushings in both bushing locations, like the OEM BMW unit. The Rein brand DISA also required the fewest number dimensional changes to our internal upgrade parts in order to fit properly.

We don’t have any lifespan experience with the Rein brand DISA valve upgraded with our repair and upgrade kit, so go this route at your own risk. Even though the injection molded main housing of the Rein DISA doesn’t look near as nice as the OEM BMW units, that should not effect it’s longevity.  Only the electronic vacuum switch and the silicone vacuum pot should be potential failure points. Unfortunately it will be years down the road before we know how well those parts hold up compared to the OEM BMW units.

Where we know the quality of the Rein DISA falls short, is in the internal plastic components. Since these parts get discarded when we upgrade the DISA valve, this is not an issue. The Rein DISA, and all the aftermarket brands are made in China, while the OEM BMW DISA is made in Germany.

NOTE: We do not recommend the Rein, or any other aftermarket brand of DISA valve, as a suitable replacement for an OEM BMW DISA valve, unless you are replacing the poor quality internal components with our all metal upgrade kit, or purchasing our Bronze Valve. If you want to just replace your DISA valve, without doing the upgrade, we only recommend a new OEM BMW unit.

No O-Ring Upgrade:
The “No O-Ring Upgrade” option retains the factory molded in silicone rubber seal.
Silicone has excellent resistance to temperature extremes, very good oil resistance, fair fuel resistance and very good compression set resistance. This is equivalent to OEM seal and should be good for approximately 5 years. Both Silicone and Fluorosilicone have a low abrasion resistance and could tear when removing the DISA again later.

Viton O-Ring Upgrade:
The “Viton O-Ring Upgrade” option includes an $5.00 labor charge to carefully scrape out the factory molded in silicone rubber seal to allow a different o-ring to be installed.
Viton is not as good with extreme temperatures as silicone, but has good resistance to compression set, and excellent resistance to both fuel and oil. It is also a little harder than silicone which makes the DISA housing a little more difficult to install back into the intake manifold. I does have good abrasion resistance so if you think you may be taking your DISA in and out for some reason this would be a good choice. Because of the rough surface inside the O-ring groove of the Rein DISA, we do not recommend the Viton.

Fluorosilicone O-Ring Upgrade:
The “Fluorosilicone O-Ring Upgrade” option includes an $5.00 labor charge to carefully scrape out the factory molded in silicone rubber seal to allow a different o-ring to be installed.
Our Fluorosilicone O-ring is a military spec, aerospace grade product. It’s a little pricey, but has excellent temperature extreme and compression set properties, plus excellent resistance to fuel and oil. Both Silicone and Fluorosilicone have a low abrasion resistance and could tear when removing the DISA again later.
